This little monster is known for its curled tail and squished up little face. They typically are seen in the fawn with black mask color. But can be available in all black as well. It is common for these little guys to have an under bite, for some it adds more character, for others it can be a bit of an issue.
Temperament, pugs are often described as a big dog trapped in a little dog body, they are full of spunk and personality. They are rarely aggressive and are suitable for families and children. Pugs are typically very intuitive and tend to play off of the moods of their owners, they can be more docile in a quiet environment or very spunky and full of play in others. Because of their emotional connection with their owners they are typically eager to please. Using positive reinforcement with training will go a long way… In most settings they are lazy, they are very happy sitting around and enjoying the good life. However, if there is any action going on in the home they want to be in the middle of it. Think of them as your little shadow, they are major attention seekers so they typically follow their owners around.
Health Concerns, pugs have very pushed in faces, because of this is is common for them to cut or scratch their eyes while playing, and having small to major breathing issues. In the summer months, pugs have increased issues with breathing and cooling their bodies due to this breathing obstruction. The breathing issues can also be triggered by stress and anxiety, it is common to see a pug get upset and then shortly after have a hard time breathing.
There life span is about 11 years of age. Because these little guys are so lazy, it is cautioned to monitor their diet and exercise because they are prone to becoming very over weight.
Pugs have lots of wrinkles, most owners will clean in between them as part of the grooming routine to make sure dirt doesn’t get stuck inside and cause infection.
I have had a rescue pug in my home for the past 8 years, there is never a dull moment and he is full of personality. Sometimes too much lol.
